The Dumbing of America, Stage 2

I don't know if you're familiar with the sentiment that our schools are not teaching the way they used to and kids are not expected to learn the way they used to. There is a grade school test from the 1800s going around that high school graduates can't ace. Tests are dumbed down so the majority of kids can pass them, but little effort is made to challenge and encourage the kids. End of rant; at least that part of it. Here's an example of the next stage of this dumbing down and forgive me if I step on any toes. I came across a blog post that excitedly promised a new, fantastically easy way to rid your glass baking dishes of greasy residue. Okay, cool, I thought. I'm all about easy and fantastic had me at the beginning. So I looked. What was it? Scrub it with baking soda. Now, I might not be the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree, but I know that scrubbing is not easy, especially with a paste made of anything slightly gritty. Fantastic didn't really fit, either. And there is nothing new about making a paste with baking soda and scrubbing anything that needs it. Where has this girl been? Another couple of examples. Is it cheaper to buy disposable diapers over and over and over again than it is to buy the reusable kind once? Or is it cheaper to wash a few dishes in a couple of gallons of water than to run the dishwasher (forget the cost of the dishwasher in the first place)? Technologically advanced, we are. It would be nice if our intellects kept up with it.

Yeah, I guess it is. I was really hoping for real "easy." I use glass for baking because metal doesn't last as long - at least for me.

@peavey here's my idea of easy: buy it at the grocery store!! Do you think I should write a blog?

Oh, we wash our dishes by hand, even do laundry by hand. Having those appliances will just skyrocket our water utility bill sometimes, technology simply makes people lazy.

I totally agree. Lazy both physically and mentally at times, it seems.
