In the 1950s and 1960, the bollywood queens who ruled the industry in addition to excellent acting skills were really beautiful.
While Nargis Dutt was involved in romantic acting with Raj Kapoor in films like Barsaat, Awaara and Shri 420, Madhubala was involved in acting opposite Tragedy king Dilip Kumar in films like Tarana, Sangdil, Mughal- i-azam.
Due to the beautiful features Madhubala played the character Anarkali in Mughal-i-azam who according to history was very beautiful and king Salim fell in love with her. In Mughal-I_Azam was the biggest blockbuster of 1960 and remained the biggest blockbuster for 15 years.
Nargis Dutt was a gifted actress and showed her excellence in films like Adalat opposite Pradip Kumar and was unparallel in the film Mother India. She was a Rajya Sabha member and did a lot of social work also.
Both Madhubala and Nargis were beautiful and great actresses in their own esteem. It is difficult to mention who was better.

I don't know either actress and looked at their photos. I would say Madhubula.

Since a lot of us may have not seen all movies of that era, it would be tough to tell that.
I have seen Mughal -E-Azam and I have seen Mother India.
I liked Madhubala more because of her never seen before looks and she was too good in songs.
Nargis was great in Mother India.
I would appreciate if you write something on movies on post 80s or 90s era too , as that is something most of us are more prone to.

Thanks Avinashji, thanks for your honest comments. I will write on 1980s and 1990s. Post 1980s, Indian films were dominated by art film actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Shabana Azmi, Smita Patil, most of the national awards were won by them. But I will write on them.
