Squirrel Tricks

I used to play with the squirrels at Penn State University and feed them. I would assemble large quantities of squirrels with food and they would crowd together beneath me. One day, a confused squirrel mistook my leg for a leg trunk and jumped up on it to get away from the other squirrels. It was terrified when it realized what it did and looked up at me petrified. I offered it a peanut but it jumped away. In time I got the squirrels to do it on command by patting my leg. One would jump up, I would give it a nut, and it would be on its way. I did this around people that didn't know and it would always surprise them. One girl screamed because she thought the squirrel was attacking me. It was a lot of fun.

Dear Morgan, I used to stay in the Campus of National Law University, Jodhpur, India. There were lot of trees and lot of squirrels. They ran very fast during mating season.

@sathviksouvik At my college the squirrels would get mad over good food. They wanted chocolate pudding and french fries!

@OneOfMany Thanks Morgan, sometimes for fun I used to keep some food in the open. The squirrel ate small vegetables.

Aw how fun! How long did it take you to get the squirrels to know you?

A few months. They didn't get the tricks right away, but they were used to working over the crowds already!

@pinkCardigangirl College squirrels are a different kind of breed. At my college the squirrels were amazing, but they didn't become friends. They were far more feral!

our previous dog was like that. when i pat my legs, he would stand and put his paws on my leg. it was cute because he has short legs.

@OneOfMany he seemed to be a mix of mongrel and something. he wasn't as small as toy dogs. to me it was the perfect height for a dog in a residential part of the city.

@hereandthere That's good. Toy dogs are the ones I was referring to! You don't want to keep a big dog in the city though I know many do. They are breeds that need to run in the open.

Squirrel attacks are not fun either, I have been scratched before and those claws get deep!

There's a lot more to animals than most people give them credit for. That's amazing what you were able to do with those squirrels.

They were smart little critters. Fast learning as well. Except when it came to squirrel fishing, which I did from my apartment balcony!

They are cute critters, but they have really sharp claws. I never got near them when I wasn't wearing jeans to avoid becoming a scratching post! Most of the times they were very nice though. The really gentle ones would come up and rest their soft hands on my arm or hand when I held out food. The renegades... well, let's just say it hurt.
