If you had a mamogram under a year ago and have been scheduled within that time, you pay big.

Yes, it seems the one hand doesn't know what the other is doing. It is expected by most patients these days as far as medicare and medicaid is concerned, that doctors are on your side and in your corner so you automatically expect them to schedule your mammograms within the recommended time periods. My wife experienced this first hand. But when the doctor tells you that you "MAY BE CHARGED FOR THIS PROCEDURE" if you have been recently or within the last 12 months been examined, you may have to pay full price for the tests. It's funny that they will go ahead with the appointments even if they do not exactly know if it's been more than the 12 months allowed by the insurance. I was told I might have to pay a nearly 200 dollar bill for a test because I was offered the test but did not follow through with it the last time within a 6 month period. I was told by the doctor that I would not have to worry because it was a technicality is all. I almost did not follow though with that test. But I was never billed so I am relieved. I could however have been hit hard by an unexpected big medical bill.

Glad you weren't billed. Insurance is an evil business.

The meaning behind the word insure in insurance is not reassuring.

I always make sure my insurance will over as doctors offices sometimes do not want to keep up! My insurance covers once a year physicals, some tests, etc so I have to make sure my appointment for the next years have been at least over a year or else I will be charge!
