Does eating less salt in food reduce blood pressure?

Does eating less amount of sodium chloride in food reduce blood pressure.
Bengalies eat a lot of salt in food. Many people use salt, green chilly and lemon in the plate where the other food like rice, chapati and other foods are served. Even when people eat fruits like guava and vegetables like cucumber, they put salt and chilly to add taste.
But it is known that more sodium chloride and other salts increase blood pressure in the body.
At the same time eating bottle guord, ladies finger, lentils like mushur and kalai are good for people.

Doctors always advice patients with high blood pressure issues like me to trim down on salt but salt makes food taste better. Without it, everything seems bland. I try to control salt intake though :)

Thanks Sunrise for the comments. If you take limited salt there is no problem. if you do good exercise that helps in metabolism.

@sathviksouvik And I think the walking exercise and drinking much water daily has helped strengthen my resistance. Before, on summers like now, I'd easily catch cold or cough but it's exceedingly hot these days and, thankfully, I've no colds or cough at all. My resting heart rate is between 60 and 67 which is an indicator for having a healthy heart.

@sathviksouvik I had to take maintenance medicine after the second time I was hospitalized for high BP. It's been a long time though that my BP has been normal but my doctor does not want to take any chances. Thanks for your concern :)

Actually bengalies are there in every part of the world Jackalyn. But in Kolkata it is hot and humid. So people inspite of being healthy face diseases from sweat.

Thanks The Horse for the response. Yes limit sodium intake, and try to see that the salt you use in cooked food, assimilates in the food when you eat it. Consuming raw salt is very bad for health.

@slayer08 Thanks Slayer for the comments. Actually mutton and lamb increase cholesterol. Too much butter, ghee also increase cholesterol.
