It's a special, late night edition of Into the Groovy, inspired by the punk postings of @JohnRoberts. Tonight, we visit New York, home of Blotto.
Blotto is not exactly punk, or new wave for that matter, yet I first heard them on a punk rock show on our local college radio station back in the 80's.
Formed in the late 1970's, Blotto is best-known for humorous lyrics on songs such as "She's Got a Big Boyfriend," "I Wanna be a Lifeguard," and "My Baby's the Star of a Driver's Ed Movie." Much like the last name of each of the Ramones is "Ramone," each Blotto member's last name is "Blotto."
Their 1982 album Combo Akimbo contains my favorite Blotto tune, "Goodbye, Mr. Bond," which basically sounds like the soundtrack to a 60's spy flick, with lyrics written from the villain's point of view. It's as clever as anything the band ever did, and Blotto was nothing if not clever.

I don't think so. It's a pretty distinct song, at least lyric-wise. It's one you'd remember upon hearing it again, I would think. I don't know, does that make any sense at all? Because it's way past time for me to go to bed, so I might not make much sense right now!

Blotto isn't punk but more tongue in cheek like Killer P. C'mon, anything James Bond is awesome!

Blotto is hilarious. I just think it's funny that I discovered them on a punk show and not Dr. Demento or something.
