Some may disagree with the title but let it be explained here. When one is wanted they couldcjust be desired. Desires can fade. The feeling can be removed. Eanted could be an infatuation. When one is needed. They're presence is appreciated. It's like water. We all need water. Without water we wouldn't survive. God supplies our needs. He knows the needs have to come before the wants.
To be needed in someone's life is a big deal. When they don't hear from you. They may feel disconnected but when there's flowing going on. There's the "need." Needing feels right. Needing is more secure than any want.

I think that we can want and need someone at the same time.

This is a good point. I think people are often happiest when they feel needed or useful.

Need is something essential; want is something you can do without :)
