From the What in the Wide, Wide World of Sports is Going On Here! Department....

I was just watching the local news and saw something that I cannot believe. A small town not too far from Louisville, Kentucky has passed a law that makes it illegal for someone to smoke in a car if there is someone under the age of 18 in the car. As Slim Pickens' character Taggart said in Blazing Saddles, "What in the wide, wide world of sports is going on here!?!?" Indeed. If this keeps up then soon people won't be able to smoke in a house where people under 18 are present...meaning the government police will be intruding into people's private homes to make sure "the children" are "safe." Meanwhile, we have gang problems and half of the murders are unsolved. And they're worried about people smoking around kids. And, sad to say, this isn't the only town more interested in what you're doing in your car than the crime rate. What's next.... The story:
Starting on Monday, drivers in Shepherdsville will no longer be able to smoke with a child in the car.

Second hand smoke is just as cancer causing as the first inhale and is especially bad for children. More than one place has that law. In Oregon you can't smoke in offices or taverns and restaurants and I am delighted.

@FourWalls It is still for the welfare of kids and I hope the law becomes universal.

@FourWalls Not sure, but smoking is a known carcinogen and if it can be done away with I hope it happens.

When I smoke, I try not to smoke around kids, pregnant women, elderly, people with oxygen, and joggers. It shouldn't be necessary to enforce common sense, but apparently it is. On the other hand, like you said, where does it end?

While I am sure that smoking is bad for your health, I think that there are lots of worse things than smoking and the smoking is now the scape goat for every bad thing that happens in the world. When I smoked (and was a heavy smoker) I asked my husband, usually the driver, to stop the car so I could do out to smoke. I did not like the smell of stale smoke in cars. But that was MY decision.
