Remembering the Nun's and Elocution lessons

When I was about nine years old, my sister and I were taken to the Private Catholic School - Convent, where we had afternoon elocution lessons with Sister Dominique.
She was a handfull not to mention a "mouth full". For one moment imagine a Belgium Nun teaching us British English elocution lessons.
Today my youngest daughter, who works at the Private Catholic School, which has been run by the Brothers of Charity order from Belgium and in earlier years a few nuns, came home with the news that the Catholic Church had sold the school to another thriving Private Sector in the country.
The news is that the Brothers are retreating back to Belgium for the last leg of their lives as they are all older than 60 at present. I would just like to add that our Catholic Church will not suffer with them leaving, only the school will be closing for lack of Nun's and Brothers to do the teaching.
It seems apparent that the country has a greater cry out for EDUCATION than moral and religious standings, therefore they are going home. I have know Brother John and a few of the other Brothers for many years and it will be sad to see the end of an Historical Era in my city - one's that came with the pioneers.
Most of the English speaking people still left in my city were a part of the Private Catholic School in some way or other and sadly it ends on the June 1st.
With all that closure, new beginnings will happen and the School group of Curro that have taken over, are a strong and educational force for the children who will prosper under their guidance and teachings.
I shall remember the era of the Nuns fondly every time I remind a pupil that "English is a ROUND sound" a little like Henry Higgins in the movie Pygmalion (My Fair Lady) .
On a final note I would just like to say that one of the pupils that I adjudicated at the Public Speaking two weeks ago, achieved First Place in the Provincial Finals and will be moving forward into the next round. Just fantastic from a Tswana Pupil, who has The Queen's English as his Second language at home. Bravo!
My photo is of M and a Priest we found walking around the Vatican - the only one I thought fitting for this post.

I am glad you had a good experience. There are many who were traumatised by wicked evil nuns who vented their sadistic hatred to kids in their care! I have read many an account over the years and heard some people who had experienced terrible times. As in all walks of life there are bad even when they are supposed to be good!

@garymarsh6 that is so sad that the Nuns of the Order were cruel by the default hand of God so to say
