What new technology do we need for the next few decades that we don't have today?

If you can, try to think of some kind of new technology, some fancy smancy idea that is ahead of it's time that would innovate this world and turn people's heads and make us really eager to have it? Anything new out there that has not yet been even mentioned that might make life more interesting and keep people from becoming zombies from intense boredom?

Star trek has given scientist a lot of ideas for new innovations. For instance they had the communicators. So someone invented the cell phone. At first the communicators flipped open so the powers that be miniaturized then modified the cell phones so we had flip phones. Star trek had laser pistols. scientists developed laser technology and eventually created tasers. Dr. McCoy had a device that he could scan the body to see what was wrong inside. We now have many ways to look inside a body and while I realize that some of them were around before star trek they have at least been refined by the vision of the future. Personally I am waiting for beaming technology. It would be so cool to travel from one point to another without the long trip. And if that won't be possible I will take a personal shuttle craft to replace my dependence on a car.

@savak03 , Well, I am only familiar with a handful of science fiction writers such as Issac Asiimov, Gene Rodenberry, a screenwriter, and a few others, my favorite being Arthur C. Clarke, author of Childhood's End and 2001, A Space Odyssey.

Imagine if you will, a technology that does something similar to beaming tecchnology. For instance, a human body is created out of pure energy and your thoughts are uploaded into it light years from Earth and your temporary body, which was formed by a 3-D human body printer, complete with all the 5 senses has your mind's thoughts and you awaken in another world as if waking from a sleep. After the experience, your real body, here on Earth, wakes up with total recall of the event although your Earth body never left the building. LIke the Matrix but a bit more fancy.

I would have to say a smart house. I do not know if you have seen this movie it was a disney channel movie. At the end the house ended up going crazy LOL but it was a awesome house LOL. All you had to do was throw the trash and food onto the floor and it would clean it self. The house would also cook for you what ever you wanted it would fix. I would love this house. That would be so great to not have to go shopping and not have to cook and to be abl to get what ever you are in the mood to eat at the time.

@Jdaw1985 I guess there might be ways to make our own houses smarter. You can set some thermostats to go up to about 73 or higher while you spend the day away and turn back down to 68 when you arrive back home, so you will feel cool when you enter the front door.

If the story or legend of the Philadelphia experiment is true, teleportation is possible but if not, we are centuries away from this form of advanced technology.

I can't read this question and not immediately think of Star Trek. Sorry! lol Transporters. Setting phasers on stun. And what their medical officers did just amazed me (I was a kid back then!). And that brings me back to your question. I'd love to see something new and wonderful in the world of medicine. Some kind of scan that could find anything, cancers or brain problems, etc. and be able to target the problem and zap it away. Not exactly a new toy we can play with at home but it would make us live better lives and maybe chase our own boredom away.

@lookatdesktop I hope that comes to fruition. We need some good news in the health department. As for fracking, I really hope someone can put a stop to all of it. It's horrible! And yes! oh my gosh, I had forgotten all about that episode. I remember that one really stopping me in my tracks and taking some time to think about the simple things that can stop us in life. Thanks for the memory!

All electric using solar power would be great. using nickel based batteries that would be having to get charged and replaced would only add more bad to the environment. Hydrogen or some other form of energy powered vehicle would be nice. You are on the right track.
