The inscription in my most prized possession...

On Mother's Day, my 18 year old son gave me a copy of Albert Camus' "The Stranger". I was so excited! It is one of my favorite books, and I collect editions of it. I decided to reread it, because it is really a brilliant work of literature, and have not been disappointed. I got about halfway through it before I realized my wonderful son wrote an inscription! I never thought my introverted son of few words would have so much to say to me. Sure, it is a harsh dose of reality, but he is truly a magnificent human being with a heart of gold. I will carry his words with me for eternity. If my house was ever on fire, and I could only rescue one material possession, this would be it.
By the way, if you haven't read this book, I highly suggest it. It is a quick read but its weight is significant. It is considered one of the most profound existential novels of our time.
Anyway, here is the inscription my son wrote:
It's been 18 years. I can't say I've remembered most of it. Too many places we've lived. All the while, family was the only constant. Though, it has driven me to Valhalla and back. I digress.
Mother, I wish your education was in teaching, that way, I may have learned more from you. I can say your knowledge in mathematics is all but defunct. However, this book is one-of-a-kind, a gem among the dirt. It is a shame such an influential writer should go unnoticed here. I suppose Americans are not partial to French literature.
Perhaps one day your writing may be as well known. Vonnegut expresses that passion comes first and the words flow after that. I am inclined to believe that. Keep at it. One day you'll settle down and have too much time on your hands and a pen in your hand.
I'm not the one to say you've raised a 'good' kid, hopefully the others will turn out well.
Silence is the sound of life, which is why I speak it. It conveys everything with nothing. "Infinity is nothing, with a twist." -Kurt V.
