MyLot, Social Media and Content Strategy Tip: Retagging My Discussions

Reviewing my old discussions and retagging them. Why? Uuuhh … because I can! Just kidding. Tagging in myLot becomes hashtagging when you tweet. (Mentioned that in a previous discussion titled “MyLot, Social Media and Content Strategy Tip: Tags and Hashtags”.) Also, tags and hashtags are like “keywords” and we know how important keywords are for SEO (search engine optimization). Plus, tagging makes discussions a whole lot easier to find later. That's not to say that the Search facility at this site isn't freakin' awesome!! Hey! Don't take it for granted. Been at other sites where the search box might as well not have even been there. You could hardly find anything. Well! You can find stuff. But usually it wasn't what you were searching for. What's the point of that? Anyway. This isn't a rant about search boxes. This is a TIP! When I first started here at myLot, the instructions for starting a discussion tell you to pick “5 tags” that indicate what the post is about. Have learned from experience that when tagging (or hashtagging), one should be consistent. It really does make search and retrieval of your content at a later date, much easier. So for some of my discussions - because we can "edit" (another feature that was sometimes missing at other sites) - the tags are being changed to more generic or organic search terms; and grouped together under similar search terms. If this works for nobody else but me, I'm OK with that.

I've heard of SEO optimization but have no idea how it works.

@cmoneyspinner I agree with you there. I don't pay for anything, and especially something I don't understand.
