On dogs: My Misty never entered my house.

I have heard here about dogs and cats in mylotter´s beds. And suddenly it dawned on me that Misty never got into the house. Misty came to my house when she was around 4years of age. She had been my grandson´s Tomás dog since she was a puppy and when he got very ill with cancer my daughter and son in law decided to take her away. Tomás needed extreme cleanness and a dog around was not a good idea. I am not sure, but in their state of sorrow and madness, they would have put Misty on the streets. I gave her a home and Claudia offered to pay for her keep as I did not have much money. But Misty was an outside dog. She never entered my house even if I kept the door open. During all the years she was with me until she went to the good dog´s heaven, she never came beyond the door. Some winter days, there would be an electric tempest at night. I worried for Misty and opened the door. She came in (I guess to keep me company) but as soon as I closed the door, she started to tremble. Was that a phobia? She never slept in a dog´s house either. Her place to sleep was as near as I was, no matter what part of the house. So I had to place matts outside. Fortunatly there is a roof just outside my bedroom door. Dear friends: I just wanted to say that Misty never entered my house. But I could write a book about my friend, my companion, my Misty. Years have passed, but I still miss her.

My two dogs go in and out but at night they sleep in the house near me. It is sad when you lose a companion and miss them so much even though years have passed.

I do not believe in keeping dogs outdoor. They are family.Ours do sleep in out bed at times. I have lost two. They are here in my yard.A miniature pet cemetery missed them both

Misty was not "kept" outside". She did not like the inside. I often was upstairs at the computer and the door downstairs was wide open so that we both knew the other was near. She never went inside. Our winters are very mild and she had thick fur, so maybe that was part of it. But it was her election, not mine.

This is obviously a natural fear of being enclosed, which exists in all creatures. A human would be horrified to find their self in a locked building with no apparent way out.

I think so too. I understand that. As I´m afraid of earthquakes, my room is downstairs even though the house is made to have the bedrooms in the second floor. And now that the sun is down, I keep a path of lights just in case I have to run down to safety.

Mysty seemed and still is a very beautiful and friendly dog. My first dog Princess was also very dear to me but she like the outdoors and the indoors. My second dog Tasha was also very close to me and lived just as well indoors as outdoors. Both my dogs have passed away but I still miss them greatly to this day. Thank you for talking about your beautiful Misty and giving me a chance to talk and remember my Or ncess and lived Tasha.

I can't imagine keeping a dog and it never coming inside the house. I suppose being outside was what Misty was used to.

I suppose it depends on the weather too. She did not need to be in and she did not enter even if I had the doors wide open.

I appreciate your sentiments to Misty. The reason why Misty never entered your house,I think, is that she was your grandson's dog initially and had lived with him for almost four years. She was just too loyal to your grandson.
