An Honor or a Punishment

I'm not certain what Green Bay did to deserve the punishment it's getting for the next week. At least that's how I view the news I heard as I waited for Once Upon a Time to begin. Let's think about this for a minute. Milwaukee is the largest city in Wisconsin. Madison, the capital, is the next largest. Granted Green Bay is the third largest city in Wisconsin, but the only thing we've ever been known for is the Green Bay Packers football team. So why, tell me why when there are two other worthy cities to choose from does the Republican State Convention need to happen here? Now when I first heard the news I thought it was the National Convention. I only heard part of the story as it was already in progress when I turned on the news, and I thought it was the Democratic National Convention. Praise God it's not that. At least we've been spared the National Conventions. The Democratic convention is in Philadelphia and the Republican convention is in Cleveland. Still I wonder what Green Bay did to receive such punishment that we are hosting the state convention this week. When I first heard about it on the news, my thoughts went in a couple different directions. Where would they host it, and we don't even have a five star hotel in Green Bay, at least not to my knowledge. Then my thoughts honed in on the construction project in downtown Green Bay over the past few months, and thought it might be there. When I looked at the news, that is exactly where it's being held - the KI Convention Center. It even makes sense why they were seeming to rush the construction over the past few months. Well it's finished and the state convention is underway for the next week, starting today. Now of course when there is any kind of convention in town, it means more business for the city. That of course is the good part of this deal. My question still remains, why Green Bay? I'm not into politics and view this as a major punishment. But I wonder if it is enough to win us a spot on the Weather Channel major cities report that seem to focus on all the major airport cities around the country. After all we do have an International airport. Oh well, probably not. Okay, that's the disappointing news tonight. Do you have any news from your neck of the woods? Thanks for reading.

Should bring in some money. That's all that matters. Here, the most interesting thing is the Warriors basketball team and lots of shootings on I-80 and CA State Highway 4, both of which I use frequently.

I hope your team does well in the playoffs. It's tragic that people would go on a shooting rampage on the highways, or anywhere.

Do you not like the added traffic or just the added crowd of every day people? I figured the boost in the economy would make a lot of people happy, and business owners no doubt are. But I guess I wouldn't want a political quagmire near me either.

So far I haven't been near it, so that's a good thing.

Do you need it? From what I've seen the south doesn't need anymore rain at this time.

I usually don't turn it on, but I didn't want to miss any of Once Upon a Time, and that's the result of that decision.

I understand your feelings. Our tourist season will be starting here in Southern California in another month ... which means three months of crowded beaches, people driving carelessly, and pedestrians jay-walking right into passing traffic. People go on vacation somewhere and they act like they left their brains and manners at home!

That's okay, it's politics. My city is hosting the state convention for the Presidential election. The national convention takes place in a couple months. Not here though.
