I had one when I was really little. My niece got a cabbage patch puppy for her 2 year birthday today, it made me think of the old dolls.

I had 11 Cabbage Patch dolls. I collected them. My parents got me and my brother our first for Easter when I was 7 (I think). Her name was Jean Dory. After that I was hooked. I started getting them for my birthday and when I got older bought them with my own money (up until I was a teen). I still have them all and the 4 my brother had. I gave a few to my kids to play with. I remember all of their names too--Jean Dory, Winston Alan, Dawn Jayne, Erin Hope, Bridgette Renee, Amy Colleen, Holly Ruth, Mariamber Judith, Zackary Joseph, Courtney Lynn and Stuart (he belonged to a friend who didn't want him). My brother's dolls were Edward Barth, Max (no middle name that I remember), Andrew James, Matthew Brooks. I always look at the dolls when we are in the store because I like to look at the names and birthdates. I actually found one with my 4 year old's birthday a couple weeks ago but didn't have money to buy it for her. Oh well, lol.

Some of the ones I bought as a teen are in good condition but the older ones are wrecked, lol. I played with them a lot. Even when I was older I made clothes for them and used them to stage scenes for stories I was writing (helped me visualize). They got a lot of loving, lol. I don't think I have a picture of them all together. Most are in storage at my dad's house. I only brought a few with us when we moved but had to pack them up because the kids weren't taking care of them.

Wow, that is really cool - if you have a picture of them, you should put it on here, I'd love to see it, that's quite a collection. I bet if they are still in decent condition, it'd be worth a lot of money someday, maybe now!

I'm glad they still make those old toys! They were the best dolls, I carried that doll around with me EVERYWHERE.

Kewpie Doll - picture of a Kewpie Doll very popular in the 1930's and 40's
When I was a kid the creator of the Cabbage Patch probably hadn't been born yet. It my day it was the Kewpie Doll.

It doesn't surprise me that you didn't have one as there probably aren't too many in myLot that are in my age bracket who do remember. I remember when the cabbage doll was very popular, though.

I really wanted one... but I never got one. My grandma made me one... but it wasn't the same. I was so jealous of my cousin (she always got everything). She had four of five of them. One of them had the cornsilk hair... and she also had the baby which is what I really really wanted - their heads smelled like baby powder.

I believe when I was younger that I I had two cabbage patch kids/dolls. I remember as well having a bedspread, but also sheets for a while of the cabbage patch kids. haha. I remember when I was younger how this had to be one of my favorite dolls that I had for quite a while. I used to always carry it with me for the longest time. And if I didn't have it sometimes by my side that I'd make a fuss if it wasn't there. I actually don't quite remember what had happened to the one's that I had.. I honestly truly wish that I would have still had them now.. As I know if I did it would be one of those things that I wouldn't want to part with.. Even if I am a grown adult now. I honestly would love to get my hands on a few of these again.. As I know that I am trying to collect some of the old 80's dolls that I had when I was a kid.. Because I either had to leave them behind when we moved away from Saskatchewan.. Or because I really don't know what ended up happening to the dolls that I had such as this one specifically. One thing I liked so much about these dolls we're the expressions on there faces.. How they ended up making these dolls amazed me. I loved the little weirdly shaped noses that they had back then.. And how each one had there own little outfits.. It's nice that they didn't end up trying to copy all of the outfits & try to make them look all the same.. I don't think a lot of dolls they make these days are as original as the one's that they used to make back from my childhood.. In conclusion.. I know that not only we're cabbage patch kids my favorite dolls in general to play with.. But they also we're some of my favorite things to collect.. As I look back now they didn't just sell the dolls & bed sheets.. But they also sold things such as pins or figurines, or tea sets, among other things.. I think the things they sold back then will end up being a great collector's item for a lot people who grew up with these dolls.. And are wanting to re-collect these items now that they are much older! . . Thanks for allowing me to share! xx
