Loopholes

Loopholes

A lot of tech companies are offering money to those who can find security loopholes in their networks. It seems some young people are now hackers trying to find the loopholes and then emailing the companies to let them know they have done so. They will even delete something on the site to let them know it is for real. One 10 year old as I understand it was rewarded around $10,000 for finding a loophole. Why can't these be made to work right from the start instead of having all these loopholes.

@mom210 It is impressive but of course now the schools teach the children computers right from the start. I know my grandchildren are now 13 and 15 know more about computers than a lot of people do.

@mom210 The kids are the ones who know aren't they. I know my grandkids have so much computer knowledge and they are only 13 and 15 but not sure what my 25 year old grandson knows about computers.

@Marcyaz amazing isn't it? When I need something done on the computer or with a gadget, I call the kids over.

Because error is human and nothing is perfect at first attempt. You might think that a software is bug-free, but it is rarely the case, and you can find bugs years later after you wrote the code. A bug happening 1/1 billion is very difficult to detect, and $10 000 to have found and identified it would be a very cheap reward...

@topffer I would think the bugs should have been out of the software before releasing the product.

@Marcyaz In a perfect world, certainly. If large companies like Microsoft ask people to do bug reports, it is because this world is not perfect. I wrote a few lines of code in my life and I found bugs in my lines years after.

It is mind boggling how some young people can figure out all this. I know I could not find one for the life of me.

$10,000 for a ten year old! Was it mentioned what he did with the money?

@sol_cee His parents approved for him to buy some games and books he wanted and the rest was to be put away in his college fund.
