What Hit Me

A lady in town was telling me her grandfather who is in his 80's was hit by a police car and totaled his car.
His hearing and sight are good but he may not have heard the siren or noticed the flashing lights or the cop may have just not been in good form.
Her grandfather was not harmed and the officer seemed to be freaked out but all her grandfather wanted was for the office to take care of the paper work.
The grandfather decided it was a sign for him to stop driving.
We won't be seeing him driving around our town any longer.

Oh the poor man.
Yes, I believe that he has made the right decision now to not drive anymore.
I am so thankful to know that he is okay and the officer.

@Marcyaz I am so glad that her grandfather was not seriously harmed! That is good news.
But I hope he is ok with the no driving thing. My pop stopped driving a few years ago and it gets him down sometimes. Driving around was one of his favourite things to do. Makes me feel really bad for him.

The grandfather was not badly hurt was good news. He gets depressed sometimes because he has to depend on others to take him here and there which is understandable.

Glad neither were hurt. My grand dad stopped driving when he dozed off driving to my aunt and uncles for a visit. He took out someones mailbox. After that trip, he kept his car until he passed but didn't drive it. He couldn't stand the thought of not having a car. They would come and get him for visits. He lived in Philadelphia in a retirement home which had their own vans which took folks where they needed to go. Have a blessed day

It was probably for the best but too bad his car got totaled wonder though if the police office was at fault that time. we old people are not always to blame as younger people can be bad
actors too.

That is a real shame. it is a terrible thing to have to stop driving and I have seen many police cars driving crazy fast to get to the "crime" or on coffee break one never knows.

I think more elderly people have to seriously consider when its time to stop driving - or family members need to get involved. I would rather ride with a 30 year old than an 80 something.

Some time age lets you know you are too old to drive. My dad in his 80 went into a ditch. From that day on others drove him around except he was allowed to drive himself to church on Sunday's and home. All two country roads...

I thought that only happened in the movies. I'm glad he's all right.

It takes all kinds of "signs" to get people to stop driving. It's so much better when someone chooses it for themselves.

That...sounds like a really good idea. Some elders do not need to be driving
