Pop video review – Air – Sexy Boy

I love this 1998 French song set to electro-synthesizer and its silly but enigmatic video. The video features Air’s singers buying and running round a park with a simple toy gorilla in a T-Shirt that declares a love for the Moon. The grown men run round the park playing with the toy while fantasising that it has escaped them to go to the Moon, causing mass despair on Earth until the boys go to fetch it back in a camper van, returning it to a hero’s welcome though the toy gorilla sheds tears for not being allowed to stay on the Moon. A fun idea with a catchy earworm tune. Arthur Chappell
