Jon Heyman reports the news on Thursday the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have signed former San Francisco Giants right handed starting pitcher Tim Lincecum to a one year, $2.5 million contract. Lincecum had pitched for the San Francisco Giants from 2007-2015 before an injury to his hip that was operated on last September ended his tenure with the team. Lincecum became a free agent at the end of the 2015 baseball season. The Angels needed his services due to injuries to starting pitchers C. J. Wilson, Andrew Heaney and Garrett Richards. Since Lincecum has not pitched in the Major Leagues this year, he will be sent to the Angels minor league system to get his feet wet before he will join the team next month.

I hope he does well. I always liked him, even though he pitched for the Giants.

I hope so too even though he considered past his prime.

The expected finally became official. It's a cheap deal for the Angels who aren't asking Lincecum to be his former Cy Young self. It's win win for the Angels. If Lincecum is decent, good. If not, they are no worse off.

It is always good to get a veteran pitcher at a cheap rate.
