Should schools teach religion beliefs to students or should religion rather be taught at home?
I'm a Christian, but I still think that religion should be taught at home. If a school is teaching religious beliefs, it's basically forcing a student to belief in that specific religion. School is there to teach students about information that they need to get a good job someday, not to teach them in what religion they should believe.
What is your opinion on this? Should religion be taught in schools or not?

I believe religion should be taught at home. I do in fact wish that prayer was allowed in public schools.

I agree with you, mainly because most teachers are not qualified to teach about religious beliefs. However, learning about different religions is worthwhile, because when we know why people believe what they believe, we can better understand their culture and be more tolerant of their beliefs.
We, as adults need to determine if the religion we grew up knowing is the religion we want to continue to follow. Did we just accept what our parents taught us, or should we examine it for ourselves and then make a decision on what we should believe? That is the question.
So, in the sense that a person, especially a child, can be influenced by an adult teacher, IF that teacher wants to PROMOTE a certain religious belief, this should NOT be allowed. If there is a class, where the teacher simply explains the teachings of various religions, then that might be acceptable, but really, church and state should be kept separate. That's the law in the USA.
Currently, I am reading a book entitled "Mankind's Search For God" which covers the history and beliefs of all the "major" religions in the world today. I'm finding it very eye-opening because I have found so many similarities in the various religions that I was not aware of and the conclusion of the matter is that all religions started in the SAME place and as the people spread out over the earth, these religions took on new and different aspects.
I'm going to write a post on this, because I think that it is fascinating.

I think that religion as a subject should certainly be taught in schools but not so as to favour or promote any particular religion. All children, I believe, have a right and a duty to learn about other religions besides what their parents may teach them. This will lead to a better understanding and respect for other people's beliefs and cultures, something which is sadly lacking in today's world.
I think, too, that the sociological reasons for the existence of religion at all should also be studied I would certainly like my children to question the need for religion and to understand why others feel the need for it as well as to be aware of and to be able to guard against extremism in any religion.

I agree, besides one always come into religion at school just from meeting people and learning what they believe. So in essence kids teach one another about their own beliefs systems with out schools needing them to. Plus, there is always private schools and colleges that teach region for people who would want to learn that lifestyle.

It's disastrous and would lead to peace turning into smithereens
