Are You Left OR Right Handed?

I am right handed myself, but my husband is left-handed. When we first met, I tried to do some things left handed because it was so unusual for me, as I had not met anyone at that point that was left handed. I found it very difficult, but I did learn to write my name.
But, I read something the other day that was interesting. You can actually enhance your brain power, by challenging yourself to do the opposite. For instance, if you are right handed, try brushing your teeth left handed. This small thing, among others, can spur your brain to develop new nerve-cell connections. And the more of these connections you have, the smarter you become.
You can also stimulate your brain power by listening to music and by doing needlework. The report said that anything you do with your hands, which requires dexterity, can exercise your brain, since your hands are closely linked to the brain. And just listening to music stimulates brain circuitry. It activates IQ-enhancing areas on both sides of the brain.
Who knew?

That is cool. I am right handed and most of the people I know are right-handed. I know some left handed and back in school when I was bored, I would doodle with my left to try and it is definitely challenging.

Most of the people I know are also right handed but I live with a left handed person. It's interesting.

thanks Alice for the share. I am right handed. I type with 2 hands. But my right hand works faster than the left hand

Yes, I type with two hands also and my right hand works faster. I've been typing for a long time, because I learned how back in high school, many years ago.

@sathviksouvik Sounds like me. I am right handed in everything I do. Did you know that a baby sucks its thumb even before it is born and whichever thumb it sucks, is the hand it will use. So, a mother can tell right away, if her baby is going to be right handed or left handed if the baby sucks his thumb.

I do a lot of things with my right hand but I can also use my left hand for some things. When I was in school I was not allowed to use my left hand and I have always felt I would have been left handed. I have 4 sons 2 of whom are left handed and 2 are right handed.

I did know some famous people but not sure if I knew any presidents were left handed. There are definitely challenges but not as many as there used to be. One example is there are now scissors for left handed people.

@Marcyaz Yes, I know. I purchased some left-handed scissors for my husband, but he really didn't need them, since he had learned how to use regular scissors a long time ago. But, you are right, there seems to be less challenges now and thank goodness, teachers have STOPPED forcing children who are left-handed, to be right-handed.

So you realize what their challenges are in a right-handed world. Did you know that several U.S. presidents and other very famous people are left-handed?

Very interesting! So, I'm sure you are aware of all the challenges being left handed presents. It's a right-handed world for the most part and those who are left-handed have to deal with that fact. It isn't always easy for them.

I am left handed. Did you know that at one time, kids who were lefties used to be "broken" and turned into righties?

Just like me and my husband. Since I met him years ago, I've tried to figure out how to use my left hand to do things but with very little success.
