Just Not Impressed with "Fear the Walking Dead" So Far

I keep trying to give this show the benefit of the doubt. But, as of yet, I have not seen anything about this show that really sets it apart from "The Walking Dead" or any other zombie-related series.
I think my biggest problem with this series, which had its mid-season finale last night, is it just seems to be rehashing old episodes/concepts from "The Walking Dead." For example, their short-lived asylum in that gated community reminded me a lot of Herschel's farm on "The Walking Dead," with the heroes working not to be thrown out while the people around them are treating the zombies as though they were still living beings.
And, of course, we can't have a Walking Dead-related series without the various characters going their separate ways, setting up a variety of stories that may or may not interact with each other and leave everyone confused about how much time has expired.
I may be giving up on this series pretty darn soon.
