How to prevent caterpillars on leaves?

Those who have potted plants in their balconies, they have lot of obstructions for free growth of herbs and shrubs.
Caterpillars are great enemies of green leaves. They eat the leaves of rose plants, jasmine plants and other plants.
They are not allergic towards fertilizers also. Many of them eat the leaves and leave the plants.

Thanks Thelma for the query. Organic insecticides like B.t meaning Bacillus theuringiensis, is effective against caterpillars. I am not sure whether the leaves get effected on the spray of the product.
