Yahoo sports Adrian Wojnarowski reported the news the Memphis Grizzlies have hired Miami Heat assistant coach David Fizdale as their new head coach on Thursday.
Fizdale will succeed Dave Joerger who was terminated by the Grizzlies on May 7, 2016 after he coached the team from 2013-2016.
Fizdale has no head coaching experience in the National Basketball Association but he has been an assistant head coach with the Golden State Warriors from 2003-2004, Atlanta Hawks from 2004-2008 and the Miami Heat from 2008-2016.
The Grizzlies are taking a chance by hiring Fizdale who has no head coaching experience in leading their basketball team in the 2016-17 basketball season.
Maybe the ownership of the Grizzlies believed that Fizdale has paid his dues with 13 years as an assistant coach.

I hope so as well since David has paid his dues as an assistant coach. The players can relate to a coach their age instead of a grandfather figure these days.

I don't really know what to make of this hiring except giving a chance to a fresh face instead of hiring someone fired from elsewhere.

You have a good point. Dave has paid his dues as an assistant coach.
