Today's Into the Groovy (#63) takes us to Manhattan, birthplace of Lenny Kravitz. (Fun Fact that You Probably Already Know: Kravitz' mom is Roxie Roker, who played Helen on The Jeffersons.) Multi instrumentalist Kravitz is a four-time Grammy winner, an actor, and even a clothing designer. "I Belong to You" is a single from Kravitz' 1998 album 5. It was a minor hit: #71 on Billboard's Hot 100, and #75 in the UK. But that's ok. Not every hit is a great song, and not every great song is a hit. And "I Belong to You" is a great song. Kravitz played every instrument on the track, other than the toy piano (thanks, Wikipedia!) "I Belong to You" is a far cry from the guitar-heavy rockers Kravitz was known for at the time. Wikipedia classifies the song as reggae/soft rock. As many times as I've listened to this song, I've never heard anything reggae at all. I do hear a whole lotta soul, though. A lot of Groovy soul.

This wouldn't be my first choice in music, but it was interesting and enjoyable. Thanks.

@teamfreak16 Nothing is so personal as one's music choices. I happen to like a lot of classical, as does the dearly beloved, but there's some stuff—Wagnerian opera—that is enough to drive me to edge of the cliff most days. Yet I know people who love it. Go figure.

You're welcome. I'm glad it was enjoyable. Seriously, I've found over the years that most of what I play isn't. Just ask any number of my ex-girlfriends!

A sad admission, but I only really know him from his time on The Simpsons!

I don't know this Kravitz song. I like some of his rockers. He collaborated with Vanessa Paradis on an album of hers.

It's very different from the likes of "Fly Away," for sure. I didn't even know who it was the first few times I heard it. Somebody played it one night in a bar, and all I had to do was check the jukebox, and problem solved.
