A NOISY NEIGHBOUR SHE IS

Nairobi, Kenya

It is so sad that 5 months down the line I have been living close to a noisy neighbour who never want to respect other people's feelings about her loud music that is always on as early as 5am and off at mid-night, I have tried to make her understand that she did not buy her heavy music systems for us but for her house. I have thought of buying sound profe but it is so expensive, I think the cheepest of all is sueing her since she also goes contrary to the laws of our land. What could you have done if it were you?

I remember reading an article similar to this one but it happened in London. They reported that neighbor to the police. The police have a warning but the neighbor didn't listen. The next day, the police took the sound system and smashed it.

We've dealt with many noisy neighbors. Here, people have til 10:00pm - and then they need to keep respectful of their noise or we have the right to call the authorities . . . but often people go beyond 10. There were times where I could tell them to be quiet . . . and other times where it was better to just call the police (we could do it anonymously here). Another thing I like to do is turn up MY music so loud when it would be most annoying to them .

@SimonOloo Of course not . I really don't know. I just wanted to catch them at a time where they might be sleeping (after all night of their fun) just to see how they like it!

???? did turning your music louder bring changes on your neighbour's attitude?

Well, it can be difficult to advise you on what to do. When my husband and I first moved into the Breakers, we had the same problem. He constantly reported our neighbours to managment, but since it was happening after hours we were repeatedly told there wasn't anything they could do. They advised us to file a noise complaint with the police. While my husband wasn't found of this suggestion, it was what we were advised to go.I suggest you speak with your neighbour, and document when you did. If she continues file a formal complaint with your police department and ask for documitation. If those fail, tough it out and hope she moves.

At our apartment complex, we call the police, we had one neighbor that was so noisy and management told us to call the police, we did and they moved out shortly afterwards. It might be different where everyone owns their home. I never had it happen before we moved to an apartment.
