i went through the looking-glass

And what I saw there was beautiful, in a nonsensical and ridiculously quirky way. There is a lot to learn from Alice and her many adventures, even in contemporary times. Lewis Carroll was ahead of his times in many respects. But this post isn't even about the latest Tim Burton film, although I would just like to add that hearing Alan Rickman's dulcet tones as Absolem was a whimsically sad delight for my ears. No, this post is about creepy-crawlies, or - to be more accurate - SPIDERS!! ... Where on earth have they come from? Before going out to travel through the looking-glass on Saturday I was just minding my own business, making myself look presentable in front of my Through the Looking-glass mirror {Mumsy saved up tokens and bought it for me from a promotion by Tetley Tea when I was a wee little one} when Husband rather urgently suggested I leave the room. When I finally deigned to follow his wishes, he pointed up. There, looking sinister and evil, was a big fat SPIDER!! immediately above where my head had been just seconds earlier. It's disappeared since then, probably getting ready to bite my feet when I slip some shoes on. *yikes* Last night there were two smaller ones in the bathroom and one medium sized one in the living room. The medium sized one spent the night under a glass, but is now free to roam the garden. I'm quite disappointed in myself. I used to loathe SPIDERS!! but the older I get the less they worry me. I can pinpoint the exact moment they ceased to be such a huge problem; I walked into a reptile shop in Norwich and came face-to-face with the biggest, scariest SPIDER!! in the whole entire world. As each year passes I seem to become a little less scared of the cheekily freaky monsters. But please don't be alarmed ... this will not stop me squealing like a child when I spy one, or refusing to sleep in the same room as a big one. I'm not that brave just yet. Stupid SPIDERS!!

Alice: Excuse me but which road should I take? Cheshire Cat: Where are you going? Alice; It doesn't matter Cheshire Cat: Then It doesn't matter which road you take Alice in wonderland was written by a mathematician and the book is literally riddled with contradictions that defy logic :) Truly a classic

A spider running across the floor still has the power to make my heart jump, irrational though it may be.

I think it's because they're so blinkin' quick! If they just plodded along we'd probably enjoy sharing space with them.

A couple of years ago I didn't see a spider for an entire year. This year I fear they're going to be about everywhere, from teeny ones to massive ones.

I don't have any worries about spiders - large or small.
