Favorite Punk Songs #6 - "Anarchy in the U.K."

What could be better at 5:30 Sunday morning than some Sex Pistols? #6 in my Favorite Punk Songs series takes us to London, birthplace of the infamous Sex Pistols. The Sex Pistols were formed in 1975 by entrepreneur Malcolm McLaren, and included snotty vocalist Johnny Rotten and, later, trainwreck, err, bassist Sid Vicious. They managed just one album, 1977's Never Mind the Bullocks, Here's the Sex Pistols, before imploding at the end of a US tour. They are, however, in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, largely due to their influence. Bands such as Joy Division and the Buzzcocks formed after seeing the Pistols in concert. "Anarchy in the U.K." was released as a single prior to it's inclusion on Bullocks, and reached #38 in the U.K. While guitarist Steve Jones played bass on the majority of the album, original bassist Glen Matlock played on "Anarchy," not Sid Vicious. "Anarchy in the U.K." has been covered by numerous acts, most notably by Megadeth. It is a legendary punk tune, and maybe could/should have placed higher in this series, but six seems about right.
