Character or Personality which one shapes a man?

no wonder somerset said and i quote “When you choose your friends, don't be short-changed by choosing personality over character.”

so i came to the conclusion that character is honorable than personality, please guys, what is your take on this topic.

Personality is what you see at a first meeting.I admit I too have been taken in by charming personalities.But in the long run my friends are my friends because of their characters.
