Quinoa: My New Rice

I am from the Philippines. I grew up eating rice 3 times a day. It is our staple, anywhere you go in Asia, rice is a given constant in all restaurants and even fastfoods. I also prefer white, polished rice which is not as healthy as the unpolished ones like brown rice. Now that I am trying to lose a few pounds, my favorite rice must take a back seat in my daily diet. A co-worker’s wife suggested trying quinoa. It is another type of grain but healthier. It is rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals and a favorite of health food fans. It is an acquired taste though, but since I am a rice-eater, I think it will not be a bad transition. True enough, it is as good as rice. I eat it with grilled chicken, stir-fry veggies, baked fish, and I even made it like fried rice! Does anyone of you have ever tried quinoa? How do you cook them? I was also warned that sometimes quinoa may have a soapy after-taste, but I always wash mine even though the package says it has been pre-washed and I never experienced this.

as long as it's fiber, then it's healthy. too bad though we dont have that here, instead i resort myself into eating okra, other greens that has fiber.

And here, it is hard to find fresh vegetables that I always take for granted whenever we go to the market.
