Proofreading Your Articles

I try REALLY hard to proofread my articles before I post them, but I still make typos from time to time, especially if I’m in a hurry or tired. But, I have noticed that some people on myLot make a lot more typos than I do. Sometimes, I can’t even understand what people are trying to say. If their native language is NOT English, I know that it can be difficult to use the right words all the time. I would have the same problem, if I were to try to write my articles in another language. In fact, I think it’s fantastic how well some of the writers on myLot, whose first language is NOT English, are able to express themselves in English. I congratulate them. But, I do think that we, and I’m including myself, should really proofread what we write, BEFORE we post it. I don’t know if it’s just a matter of bad typing, or bad spelling or being in a hurry or any number of other things, but I have a difficult time “liking” something that isn’t written well, or responding to something that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. What do you think?

I always proofread and still make mistakes and typos. It's like you are blind sometimes and it's so embarrassing.

I agree. My mind races faster than my fingers can type. I leave out words I thought were there. When I see these mistakes, I edit and correct them. I also have Grammarly installed and it underlines mistakes in red so it makes it easier to see typos and grammatical mistakes.

I know it. I read what I write and sometimes double check and I still make typos. It's crazy.

@akalinus I've never heard of Grammarly, but maybe I have it because my computer does point out mistakes in grammar and punctuation and spelling.

@IreneVincent Grammarly underlines mistakes in red and tells you what the problem is

I really try to proofread before I post but sometimes I just don't catch the error right away. Sometimes If I read something and it doesn't make sense I just go on by it.

@IreneVincent Isn't it strange how sometimes we don't see our mistake the first time around.

I'm exactly the same way. I just corrected two mistakes in the responses I had already made earlier.

@Marcyaz It is strange, but it happens to me all the time. I watch every letter as I type something and then I read it over again, but still sometimes I miss something. It is very strange.

english is my second language. i take care when i post a discussion, response or comment. but even native english speakers make mistakes here and it can get confusing, too. but i avoid pointing them out. we have our reasons why we like posts. some i like because they're very well done. some i like because of what was being shared.

Natutuwa akong makausap ka. Your English is excellent. I don't point out mistakes to individuals, because I sometimes make mistakes too, but I'm just suggesting that we all try harder to make our posts worth reading. We can use this site to improve our writing skills and our communication skills.

@IreneVincent Sometimes, I think that we try to type too fast and that is when I personally make most mistakes.

I do think many are in a big hurry to get that post out there. I could probably take a lesson form them to get most posts. But, I like to have a clear head when I sit down to post and well, that does not happen that often right now.

@IreneVincent We are pretty much done, One has a few pages of Math I have asked them to finish and the 2 new reader will have to continue reading out loud to me all summer. That only takes a few minutes out of our day though. It is worth it though, keeps them from forgetting while we take a nice long break.

Just one more week of school here. I'll bet you have been busy with your children, finishing up the school year. How is everyone doing?

Yes, we can all improve our English and grammar and spelling and writing skills if we TRY.

I do proofread my work but I hope someone can also do it for me because sometimes, I tend to be careless. I can say that I am still in progress when it comes to putting down my thoughts in writing. I admire other Mylotters whom I can say have a good command of the English language. In fact, you are one of them whose writing I admire so much. By the way, English is my second language.

Oh, and isn't it funny(as in 'aggravating') when, as you're 'speed typing', your fingers become dyslectic and you have to keep hitting backspace and type all over again...

That is true. I'm always hitting the backspace and typing things over.
