Back in the 60's we called him "the Louisville Lip." That was when he was Cassius Clay. Of course, as they say, it ain't bragging if you can back it up. And Muhammad Ali could back it up. Ali died today (6/3) in Phoenix at the age of 74. Here are a couple of music-related tidbits about "the Greatest." Everyone knows that song "The Greatest Love of All" as a big Whitney song, but it was originally a hit for jazz/pop singer/guitarist George Benson. It was part of the soundtrack to the film The Greatest, about Ali. In 1975 Johnny Wakelin scored his only US top 40 song with "The Black Superman (Muhammad Ali)," about the champ. Farewell to "The Greatest."

I used to have this on 45. Or one of those K-Tel records. I know I had it, though. R.I.P., Champ.
