A Wedding is an auspicious occasion in India. In order to ward off the negative impinges and to minimize the harmful effects during wedding festivities all possible measures are taken whether they may be called faiths, customs or superstitions. The period of engagement to marriage, brides are asked to carry a knife or any sharp edged object in her arms all the time to protect herself from evil spirits. Appplication of Mehendi on the hands and feet one before the wedding ceremony is a tradition. The darker the Henna color the stronger her marriage will be. It is considered sacred if it rains on the Wedding Day. This is a sign of fertility and wealth. Making own wedding outfits is thought to be unlucky for the to-be-bride. After the receiption before leaving with her husband the bride throws the bouquet over her shoulder towards her unmarried female relatives and friends. One who catches will be the next to get married. If you spot a rainbow or black cat on the day of wedding , it is a good omen.

I know a few of them..like the mehendi one. But the question is there some logic behind these superstitions? At this age also should we continue to believe these?

A good question. That is why I have posted another titled 'The logic behind Indian Superstitions'. They were all propogated as superstitions only not with the logic behind them. The science is now establishing the truth behind them. The test tube conceiving method was mentioned in Mahabharata. The Science after a research of 25 years could finally accepted the truth and veracity behind it.
