Clubs by age: an idea after meeting a mylotter.

Last night I had a first (not last) encounter with a mylotter about my age. We live very far away yet we could relate completly by talking about our favorite music. You see, we are the rock n roll gals of the late fifties and the sixties. So many times someone asks me whether I remember this or that song and I could write a story of the memories that come immediatly to my mind. Elvis is not just Elvis. He is my youth, my father trying to ape his movements, the parties and the boys who danced better. My new friend @ramapo17 (Nancy) was listening to oldies when I was doing the same. We cried again for the loss of Ricky Nelson, so young! I remember that in the old mylot there was a lady a little older than myself who was an Elvis fan. I forgot her name, but I haven´t forgotten her. We talked about our grandchildren with a rock n roll twist. Care to join?

The only thing I remember of the fifties and sixties is Elvis when he was shown on a TV show which really made him become a big name. That is great you have someone you can talk with about those days.

He went to the Ed Sullivan show. But many people went there and not one of them were like Elvis. Of course he made many people blush with his movements.

Growing up in that era does not necessarily mean shared tastes in music. There was a vast variety of music genres around in those days, some that I liked and some that I disliked.

@marguicha I never liked Elvis Presley or The Beatles, both of which were hugely popular at the time. I did like The Rolling Stones and Roy Orbison. As you know there were many groups and recording artists who appeared for short spans, of which I again liked only a selection. There was a vast change in music styles between the 1950s and 1960s, not all of which was desirable. I cannot think of much that could be so offensive to the ears as Little Richard stamping on a piano and yelling into a microphone.

@Asylum Many of the groups then yelled a lot and then the kids watching would really get into the music. As much as I loved Elvis and most of the other rock and roll singers I also loved Neil Sedaka, Neil Diamond, Glen Campbell, Ricky Nelson and so many more. Both loud singers and some more calm.

Nothing like songs of the sixties. I loved them - most of them. I think Jailhouse Rock was Elvis's Right?

@ramapo17 There used to be a jukebox in the restaurant where we colleagues would go for lunch and we would always opt for this song.

sounds a fun club though I was never a big Elvis fan myself - more for the Beatles - glad your meeting with a fellow mylotter went so well

I watched some videos from concerts by the Beatles yesterday. I specially loved the naughtiness of Lehn Lennon. He was witty. Check a video in which they sang Twist and Shout when they were very young.

I checked your age and you are too young to be an Elvis fan.

I'm up for it, as even though I'm probably older than you it was my era too. The very first record I bought was Bill Haley's Rock around The Clock - happy days.

I still have the 45 vinyl of Rock around the clock. I don´t know if it was the first record I bought, but it was a must. I think the first record I bought with my own allowance was Silouettes.

@ramapo17 Those were the days, eh? The youngsters can't ever imagine that we did that sort of thing, can they?

@jaboUK I think that was the first 45 record I bought too. I graduated high school in 1960 so I am a real "Oldie but Goodie". I use to go to lots of rock and roll shows as I grew up between New York city and Philadelphia. There were always rock and roll shows and dances almost every weekend somewhere nearby.
