Another great and exciting first for me - A Postcard from Russia!
My very first postcard as well as beautiful stamp from the region of Moscow -
"Novodevichy Convent, also known as Bogoroditse-Smolensky Monastery, is probably the best-known cloister of Moscow. Unlike other Moscow cloisters, it has remained virtually intact since the 17th century. In 2004, it was proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site.In 2004, In the UNESCO team evaluation, it was affirmed that the convent is the most outstanding example of the so-called "Moscow Baroque"
This is another fascinating fact!
"Vasili III, the Grand Prince of Moscow, founded the Novodevichy Convent in 1524 in commemoration of his conquest of Smolensk in 1514.
Tsar Ivan the Terrible who reigned 1533–1584 was Vasili's son."
On March 15, 2015, a fire engulfed the convent's tallest bell tower, luckily the fire was contained and didn't do any damage to the historical building itself"
Very fascinating as I never thought that Convents or monasteries were in Russia at all.
So what do you think about my beautiful postcard?

@Inlemay It was back in 1981 when I travelled to Siberia. I required a 3 page visa containing 2 passport size photographs, which was stamped and checked at each location.
Russia was staunchly communist at the time with the proverbial iron curtain in full force.

it sounds so fascinating. South Africans have to get a VISA and a permit to visit Russia or any of the Soviet States. We have a bible committee that travel there frequently and they come back with lovely photos but dont get to spend much time touring. What a shame they dash in and dash out.

absolutely - they are all over the world, and when I was a young girl, we just read about them in stories or saw them in movies like Dr Zhivago - now I am getting a personal card from people there. Its just mind boggling how the modern technology connects me to the world, that shows me the wonders and beauty all over this GLOBE! Just remarkable

I miss my old stamp saving days--got lots of letters, pictures, cards etc. but it started to become 'work' so I ended it and sold all my collections!!
