Third Tropical Storm-Already?

Hurricane season started on June first. Here it is, only June sixth and we’re dealing with our third tropical storm. I grew up in landlocked Minnesota. We dealt with thunder storms, hail, and an occasional tornado. As farmers we monitored the weather, but took each day as it came. When we settled in South Carolina I didn’t have a clear understanding of how much damage a hurricane or tropical storm could do. I learned the hard way with Hurricane Hugo back in 1989. For years after that checking the Weather Channel every morning. With small children in the house, I wanted some advance warning. Here in SC we generally don’t have to worry about hurricanes until August or September. We’ll get some rain from Tropical Storm Colin, but Florida will get the brunt of it. With luck and a prayer the damage will be minimal. It’s a storm and not a hurricane. What worries me is that we are already up to C. Is this going to be the year we make it all the way through the alphabet? I hope not.

Florida definitely gets hit more than we do. Hopefully Colin will not cause a lot of damage.

It really is a concern based on the fact that this was named yesterday, just 5 days into the season.

What scares me is that its the third one. I don't like to count the one in January as that's a hold over from last year, but there has been two in the last three weeks.

I'm glad to live somewhere where we don't get hurricanes or tropical storms. Good luck on making it through the year without getting to Z.

We've had several good years in a row. I'm afraid we're due for a rough year. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Colin is a tropical storm. It's hammering Florida as we speak.

It sure looks like it and then the double letters start. We had that a few years ago when we got all the way through the alphabet.

@BettyB I hope it won't be a bad hurricane season, but it does seem to be starting early this year, or at least earlier in the season than usual.

I remember getting to M but I think there were more after that. I stopped paying attention. Our peak month is September. By October is the upper east coast that's at risk.

It's here in Florida now. Today is going to be the worst day with winds up to 38 MPH and 6+ inches of rain. It's raining now. All I care is that it doesn't stall over us for several days like Debbie did the first summer we lived here, 2012.

Six inches of rain is more than enough. I never really worried about the amount of rain we got until last fall when that storm stalled off the SC coast. We had over three feet of rain before it was all said and done. What a mess!

@BettyB I know last year we (our entire block)went without electricity for an entire week! We had to pack all our food in coolers and cook outside! But us Floridians can turn anything into a party lol

Every area of the country has its own weather problems. Its just a matter of deciding what you're willing to put up with.

Thanks. I know we'll have more. I just don't want to be dealing with one or another every week all summer.
