chewing gum on stair rails

I was walking through Manchester city centre and cut down some steps near the main Arndale shopping centre, and held on to a safety rail there only to get some skroat's chewing / bubble gum stuck to my fingers where they had just finished chewing and pinned it to the rail - such disgusting icky behaviour. The best of it, despite all sorts of rumours and folklore gum is perfectly safe to swallow.

Is it too much effort to dispose gum in the wrapper or tissue then place it in a trash bin?

We have special depositories attached to lampposts in my neck of the woods. Rarely see it on the pavements anymore, or elsewhere.

@arthurchappell I hate it when people do that. I have caught that stuff on my hands and if a bathroom isn't handy I really hate it. The worst is stepping in sticky gum on the street in the summer.

I work maintenance at a restaurant. I detest chewing gum. There's always some used bubblegum stuck somewhere. I've peeled it off of tables and chairs. Chiselled it off the pavers on the patio and picked it out of the urinals. There are garbage cans everywhere and there is no excuse for not disposing of it properly.

Oh that is totally disgusting - If I find the person who put it there I would rub it in the soil and make them chew it again!!! Never put gum anywhere else than in the trash - even just thrown on the ground poses a hazard for birds, who think its food and their beaks get locked and then they die. If you chew gum at least have the good manners to discard it in the correct manner. Swallowed gum can only make your tummy work at best, I agree.
