I didn't get to love it for very long, but I loved that damn bike.
It was my first full suspension bike. I wasn't in the market for a new bike, full suspension or otherwise, but, one night after work I was bored, so I stopped at a bike shop on the way home, merely intending to browse.
After a test ride, I walked out with a last-year's model Specialized Rockhopper FSR, equipped with a Manitou Answer fork, for just 600 bucks.
I put over 2000 miles on the thing that summer, dialing it in as I trained for various charity rides.
And just like that, it was gone, stolen from my neighbourhood bar, a bar that I, as well as others, had had no problems riding bikes to for a few years.
I can't prove it, but I'm about 99% certain it was you, JOHN, and I hope it pitched you over the handlebars, causing permanent injury, the first time you rode it.
It was nobody's fault but my own, and I now use high-tech, near-theft-proof locks (it taught me that valuable lesson, if nothing else,) but I was devastated at the time. I hadn't had a bicycle stolen from me since I was a kid.
No lock is completely theft-proof, but a really good one is worth the expense. Especially if you lock up your ride next to easier to steal bikes.
Lesson learned, the hard way, but learned nonetheless.

I've got one that is guaranteed up to $3000. It's just really heavy to lug around.

My cousin owns a Specialised Rockhopper 29, it's a beautiful bike.
A few minutes ago, I was thinking of getting a Specialized S-works Tarmac. I have to save money again for that.

I also had a bike stolen from a bar. Damn crooks. Never take your bike to a bar no matter how good the lock. That is what I learned.

I hate bike thieves. One morning I saw a homeless guy steal a bike from another homeless guy who was sleeping on a bench. I would have said something, but the thief had that "just got out of prison" aura and looked at me like he would just as soon cut me than not.
