Lighting a Camphor in Hinduism

Aarti or lighting a camphor is an important stage of offering prayers in Hinduism. It symbolizes the removal of darkness. It is performed lightinga ghee lamp in front of the diety. At the end of the prayer, the Hindu light camphor in front of the diety. When it is lit it burns itself out, fully evaporating without leaving any resdue, leaving only a sweet fragrance in the air. In the same manner, it symbolizes the union of the Devotee with the God leaving his ego without any residue spreading the light of knowlege to other lives.
