Should we just depend on the enforcers or have to be careful?
Have you been a victim or being pickpocketed?
Watching "inside: pickpocket king" in Nat Geo, i came to see, how pickpocketers work.
It is not just only one person, but it is.a.team.
Pickpocketing is a team work---a distraction, a.blocker, the one who will get your wallet and someone they will.pass the wallet.
Haven't been pickpocketed..yet. hoping no.
Not just because i don't go out that much, but i avoid going to crowded places. And if ever i happen to be there, wallet is on front and my.body bag too.
Better to be safe than sorry.

i pity the fool who tries to steal mine. if'n they survive'n 're successful, they'll find't empty!
what a shame that so many've resorted to such shenanigans. they've obviously got some "skills" that could be put to better use...'n get a job to support 'emselves'n their habits.

they might not get any money, but most people have IDs,CC,Insurence crds and the rest in wallets, these are not always easy or cheap to replace.

Had my pocket picked once but it wasn't my wallet. They did get my dad's wallet once. The sliced his pants and pocket open with a razor while he was in a crowd.

@Lucky15 Lost his wallet and ruined his pants on vacation. Not a good time.

sadly, that's a technique done here, too, @koopharper especially if they see that your bag is made of soft material.

I'm thankful that I haven't been from pickpocket, Jesus forbids from this. I was robbed when me and my men went to Pagadian City to buy bulk of dried fish before, that was a big money, we were robbed when we were on our way, thanks God that they only took the money from where we hide it. They throw the key of our 10 wheeler truck so that we can't ask the policeman's help, it took us several hours to get help.

In Kolkata many people travel in public buses. It remains loaded. Many pick pockets take money from the wallets in the crowded buses.

@sathviksouvik in crowded trains, too, and if it's not the wallet, it's the cellphone that was picked.

@Lucky15 yes Reine, they are efficient in the art. After the pocket is picked the person realizes, money has gone.

I remember one advice coming from my mom's friend when she was still a teacher, when your in a dangerous place, always put the wallet in your underwear. He was serious about it, but that was the point that made me quit my job. because the place i go to is dangerous.

I haven't had it happen to me. Back in the day, the naughty people would try to straight up "strong-arm" rob you, but they tended to give up if you fought back (unless they were armed). My sense is that pick-pocketing is more common in Europe than in the US.

Happened to me some years back, l though l will lose my mind.Went Christmas shopping and stupid me, l took $1,600 cash, lost the whole amount, thought my X would kill me, he was so mad.
Washed the handbag where the wallet was for about 1 month nonstop, kept thinking and hoping the wallet was in some nook in the bag, always turning it upside down, inside out and repeating for a full month.
We do have professional thieves from Eastern Europe around Christmas time

There is this story about a pickpocket (?) who snipped off a gold chain from a lady's neck in a crowded bus .Imagine her surprise when she had her chain flung back at her ."if you wear gold, wear the real thing not costume jewellery" a man shouted as he got off at the next stop and disappeared.
I still have not been able to figure it out if it is a real incident or a joke.

I never been a victim and I hope never, I hope you don't encounter that either. When my dad traveled to Vietnam, he was careful.

@Lucky15 Hide money inside clothes not in your back pocket. Do you carry purses often in your country?

I know of some people who have been pick pocketed. I hate these people who do that and I pray that they get a jolly good dose of scabies and fleas and it itches like hell and their arms have dropped off through all the thieving they have done and can not scratch themselves!

@Lucky15 It is not easy money because the poor victim has worked hard to get it. I stand by my original statement!

Those are good precautions. Pickpockets are stealthy and, as you say, work in teams.

I'm very much vigilant when it comes to crowded area. You will never know what's going to happen. If it can be avoided, I don't go to crowded places.
