Would you kill for LOVE?...

While I was a freshman studying Criminal Law, one of the cases I dissected was about a woman who killed her husband in order to protect their child from harm. The incident took place in their home. The family came home from the park due to heavy rain. The husband was at the stairway walking his way up the stairs while his 3-year-old son was behind him. Accidentally, the husband was out of balance. The wife who was just a few steps away saw that the husband was about to fall and the child will be harmed. Instantly, the wife held the umbrella up to stop the husband from falling, instead he was pierced by the umbrella and got killed. Though the child was safe, he lost his father from the incident. The wife was prosecuted for the murder but the verdict came out that she was not guilty on the ground of self-defense. A man was murdered inside the University library last week. The investigation shows that it was a case of a love-triangle. The suspect was a married man. He shot the victim with the suspicion that they had an affair with his wife. Although the affair was not confirmed, he still managed to kill the victim. The suspect was arrested and is now on trial for the murder. Two cases, two murders, but with the same denominator which is love. Victims are innocent but were killed with the same reason, love. If you are going to kill for love, which one are you?

Isn't first one supposed to be an accident? I don't about Law at your place but here Mens Rea is an essential ingrediant to consitute an act as a criminal offence. And correct me if I am wrong it's the same in the most places of the world. So the first one is not even a crime! So I wont call it Killing someone.

I'm not arguing if it is a crime or not. Obviously, the first one was not. But the act itself qualifies the killing whether it was accident or not. I'm just asking a hypothetical question here, if you are willing to kill for the sake of a love one...

It would have been called an involuntary homicide here, a criminal offense punished by 3 years of jail maximum in my country.

A crime of passion is a good way to crave for the indulgence of a jury, but I would be more attracted by another kind of crime if I was decided to kill for love : perfect crime. By the way, I also studied criminal law.

@rachz_kisses I lasted a bit more to make my parents happy. You can specialize in criminal law as a 1st year student in your country ? I had to wait until my master to have this option.

@topffer Nope. You have to graduate first before you specialized on it.

Really? I only lasted a year. I didn't finish my schooling. I realized that the law and I we're not meant for each other.

No killing for love. It wouldn't be love if one has to kill the other. I've plenty of love triangle cases. So sad.

So true. But they have this reason, they did it because of 'love'... for those people with sense, it's pure selfish.

The first case is like a freak accident. And acquittal is right.

@rachz_kisses What horrible & sad stories. :( It's hard to answer. I can't get myself in that "killing someone" mind. I can't even fathom how people can kill others anyway.

I would kill to protect a love one from harm, not from passion. As love comes and goes with peopel all the time.

Honestly I would not kill love if she does not have that courage. To kill out of love depends on whether love is to protect the person you love, or just frustration that this man wants to be with you. Or fear of it that you want that person to remain forever yours. There are so many versions of this topic murder of love.

Yes. It really depends on the person though. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

So weird cases, but these are realities and really happened in our society. It's not all because of love, but because of the injury, shame and insult. The feeling sucks.

I don't know. I think I can't do that. Killing is killing... We don't have the right to do that.

I'm not even sure if I can kill someone for love... Not for jealousy, I guess. We don't have the right to kill but circumstances can lead us to it.

I would the be the wife. The intention wasn't to kill. Other case however....man listen I rather get a messy divorce then go to prison. I'm too cute for jail and I'm too grown to be told what to do, when to sleep, eat etc.
