Planning a trip to Athens, what are the most recommended places to go to?

I'm planning a one week trip to Athens in a few months with my wife and looking for the best places to go to. What are the most recommended historical sites, best food places and most beautiful nature spots we should see?

That would only scratch the surface of Athens. I'd definitely go to the Acropolis, I'd find various museums to go to. And look for local restaurants to dine in.

My son just returned from Greece, the Isle of Crete to be exact. Wish I could help he was there for a Physics conference, so he wasn't able to do much sightseeing.
