Why do they call it your funny bone there's nothing funny about hitting it

I dont understand why when you say you hit your elbow that some say oh that's your funny bone because there is sure nothing funny when you hit it on something. My left arm I have dislocated my elbow and fracture my arm about 3 different times and this last time it has never healed right and earlier as I was coming in from outside somehow I managed to smack my elbow on the door well I let out a scream and my husband asked what happened and I told him and he oh your funny bone, yeah whatever Im gonna show him a funny bone.
