Sun glasses protect your eyes from excess exposure to u.V. radiation. The excessive exposure to u.v. radiation causes cataract. It also protects from the reddening of the white region of the eye.
Now, the question will be what lenses provide the best kind of protection to the eyes the answer will be that the sunglasses with larger frames, round wrapped protect the eyes in larger and higher degree .
The Polarized ones can not give protection in larger degree from UV radiation and they are effective in reducing glare in snowy areas or beaches.
There is a misconception that the sunglasses are absolutely not necessary on cloudy days but the fact is that the u,v. radiation is as strong on a cloudy day as on other day. Hence, they are imperative.
Just because the glasses are darker it can’t be said that they protect your eyes in a better way. When you wear your pupils become widened and with it more exposure to u.v. radiation.
The U.V. protection comes from wearing subglasses which are having anti-uv ray lenses.
