So, who wants to wear this wood face mask? The wood carving is made just by a common wood carver in our region and then sell this in trade fair and exhibit. The talented artist who name is not known because I'm shy to ask made this work of art. The mask is a face of lion. Look at the detail of the carving. Carefully made. You can hear the roar with the shape of its mouth. Isn't this beautiful?

That is very beautiful and very skilled carving. I think that, if I wore it, I would scare the living daylights out of people! I didn't know that mask-making was a traditional art in the Philippines. What ceremony or drama are they used in?

In Visayan region we have Maskara festival (mask festival). But in our region, there is no ritual wearing mask. In Cordillera, there is tradition on tattoo but this does not include mask. The photo is just work of art.

@ilocosboy I think that masks like these are used in Chinese and other oriental traditional dramas. Perhaps the art of making them came to the Phillippines with the immigration of those peoples a long time ago.
