Today's From the iPod (#45) is one that I was listening to just yesterday. So let's head to Oakland, birthplace of Michael Franti.
A former member of both The Beatnigs and The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, Michael Franti is the leader of Michael Franti and Spearhead. Franti can both rap and sing, and is a great protest songwriter. He is, however, equally adept at positive tunes, one of which is the title track of Spearhead's 2003 album Everyone Deserves Music.
It's a mantra that those of us that write about music a lot on here seem to follow. You, me, everybody, we all deserve music, so we post about it. A lot.
My iPod contains the original studio version, but I've attached a really good live clip. If you dig it, cool. If you don't, that's cool too.
Be sure to listen to some music everyday, no matter what you like. You deserve it!

The weird thing is, he's obviously not a household name, yet he sells out Red Rocks on a yearly basis.

I would be lost without music. Was he originally part of Burning Spear?

Not that I'm aware of. I do love Burning Spear, though. "Marcus Garvey" made the cut for my Favorite Reggae Songs series I did recently.
