My old cat had her first check up at the vets since my mum took ill a few months back and passed with flying colours. My sister took her for her appointment. I had an appointment of my own with a placement on a psychological evaluation course for getting the unemployed over 50’s back into work. It amounted to stating the blindingly obvious. No Work equals no money, low self-esteem and unhappiness. Working equals money from income, more happiness and freedom and more self-esteem, so in conclusion we are better off working. This was the biggest revelation to me since I learned that round wheels work better than triangular ones. I have to go back next week to learn more. Though supposedly confidential between the dozen students (all lovely people) and our nice but condescending teacher, there were two people from the welfare department just sitting in to learn how such courses run – the cynic in me couldn’t possibly think they were watching us rather than the clients of course. That would be paranoid and silly. We had a break half way through the two hour course and I asked to use the toilets. They have no public one so I had to be escorted to the locked staff loos by a security official. I felt like a prisoner under escort. Arthur Chappell

I've never been escorted to a restroom before. How odd.
