How to restore the passion when people work on other area?

In majority of people's lives they dont get the job related to their specialization. But they try to keep their passion intact. For example in India, if a law academician is specialized in Competition Law, he teaches in a University where he teaches Criminal law. The reason is already there are other academicians who teach Competition law. So for keeping the interest in Competition law, the option left is to publish articles in good journals on topics related to Competition Law.
