Who is the Martha Stewart in Your Family?

Does every family have one? Maybe. Maybe not. Do you have a person in your family who takes food and meal preparation to another level. They can't just cook the food. It has to a be work of art!! Martha Stewart is a famous American domestic diva goddess. She has had some competition from the likes of chefs like Sandra Lee. But, truthfully, there is no other celebrity homemaker that can take her place. The MarthaStewart-type in my family was my late aunt, Bernice Johnson. We called her “Aunt Bern”. One day I was watching a TV show and Ms. Stewart was explaining the history behind a certain kind of dishware. These days those particular dishes, since they hearken back to a time many moons ago and are very nostalgic or retro or vintage, are very expensive, but worth buying and keeping in the family to pass down. As part of her explanation, Ms. Stewart displayed a few of the dishes. My eyes popped out of my head! It was such a shock! Unbelievable! They looked just like my Aunt Bern's plates!! UUUGGGG!!! Those plates were valuable???!!! I have no idea what happened to the dishes in my aunt's kitchen cabinet after she passed away. Anyway. Always knew my aunt was a classy lady! Thank you Ms. Stewart for bringing back a wonderful childhood memory.
The partnership, called Martha & Marley Spoon, puts the icon directly in competition with startups Blue Apron, Plated, Munchery and others.

@paigea - Yeah. I thought it was odd too. But they seemed to not live “inside” his life or pay attention to his work. It was like they weren't really a part of or in tune with the New York lifestyle or the art scene. Maybe when he went home to visit, he didn't flaunt his wealth or fame; and they were just happy to see him. To the world he was a renown artist; but to them he was just “ordinary” Andy. It seems odd, but not altogether an impossibility.

@cmoneyspinner That seems odd. I can see them considering him just Andy but I would expect they would still know he was famous.

Our Martha Stewart is my older sister. She lives in Italy and is an art historian, specializing in ceramics.

An art historian who lives in Italy? Would love to trade places with her! From what I understand, Martha Stewart is pretty good at ceramics. Do you ever get to visit your sister?

No Martha Stewart in my family, one of my sister is close enough for cooking.

I'd never heard of this lady, so thank you for explaining. Some people drop names into posts and expect everybody to know them, regardless of their nationality. What a pity that you don't know where your aunt's dishes went.

Yes I try to explain who people are, always being aware that this is an international community. As far as I know my brothers took care of all of my aunt's belongings. It's been too many years for me to follow up on it and besides ... the memory is priceless.

I think I am the Martha Stewart in my family. I love cooking and baking and I am very creative in the kitchen. I have also vintage plates from my parents-in-law which are very expensive now.

You think? I know! I've never been to your house but I can tell by your blogs you are definitely a domestic diva. Plates were not something I ever paid any attention to until that Martha Stewart episode. Now I realize they can be an investment!

@cmoneyspinner You just made me laugh. Thank you very much. I don´t pay attention either to plates brand until I saw in the TV show about antique things that might be in cupboard

My sister and I both but not because we make a whole show out of it. More like because we both use tons of butter. Got to have butter or it is no good.

LOL. My husband has dietary restrictions. He insists that Martha Stewart is trying to kill everybody with butter and eggs.
