When I´m on a perfect mood, I turn on mexican rancheras and sing with the best: Pedro Infante, Jorge Negrete and Plácido Domingo.
I sing along because I live alone and the singers are either dead or far away. My whole house becomes then a sort of shower (my usual place to sing).
My late husband´s song was El Rey and now Plácido Domingo is singing just that. I help him and so does a giant chorus of all the people that went to see him in a great concert. Thant YouTube!
Mais ou sont les neiges d´antan, I also sing for myself. I´m old and I want mariachis, boleros, the beautiful old folk songs from my country and from Argentina.

I am probably Plácido Domingo's greatest fan. Of course his operatic performances are by far my favourite and my idea of the ideal music.
I enjoy Zarzuela, but the Mariachi performances do not really appeal to me. I find the notes too sharp, despite this being the right tone for that genre of music.

You have to be latin to really love rancheras
There are so many songs that depend on your culture. Yesterday, just before the internet went down, I saw, heard and sang La Bamba. I imagine you choke with that music

I love latin american music. I learned by heart lots of mexican rancheras before I was 7 years old. It seems that they were sung by the maid as they could only go to the movies in Spanish. And at that time, the mexican movie was tops.

I didn´t mind if my husband was around when I was singing. But I would not sing in front of just anyone.

@marguicha I can understand that. I'm the same way, only my kids ask me not to sing, so I make sure I'm completely alone when I do.

Glad about your singing. A song lifts our mood all the time.
My husband hums all day, I don't because I am so off key(no not even in the shower)
